Membership Elects Four Directors for 2005

Mr.F.E Shaeen, Mr. Joe Huffman, Mr. Jim Lyons, and Mr. Brett Coghlan were elected to the Texas Ambulance Association Board of Directors.

Ferris E. (F. E.) Shaheen III is President of EMS Systems, Inc in Levelland. EMS Systems, Inc is a private provider of 911 services to the rural communities of Levelland, Hockley County, Morton, Whiteface, Cochran County, Lamesa, and Dawson.

Mr. Shaheen believes the Association faces many issues." Reimbursement remains a top priority for all providers in Texas , however, to begin to resolve reimbursement and many of the other issues we face we must establish a self governing entity truly representative of all providers. An EMS Commission in Texas will ensure that our issues are our issues. This can only be accomplished by bringing all stakeholders to the table, establishing a plan and through a strong cohesive voice, approach the legislature to create through statute an EMS Commission. "

Mr. Shaheen also represents the TAA by serving as the TAA representative on GETAC.

Joe Huffman is Special Event Manager for Dallas based Lifeguard Ambulance of Texas. Joe also is on the Board of Directors of the American Ambulance Association.

Mr. Huffman's goal is to increase the membership by 50% and feels that the recent fragmentation of TDH should be a top priority of the Association.

Mr. Lyons is the President of Falls County EMS. Falls County EMS is a privately owned corporation located in Marlin, Texas and is the sole provider service for Falls County and all it's incorporated and unincorporated cities and communities, in addition  EMS coverage for the City of Bremond in Robertson County is also provided.
Mr. Brett Coghlanl is Field Supervisor with Austin County EMS. He believes that tthe biggest issue facing EMS is two-sided Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement. " I think in order to help solve the reimbursement problem we need to do more education to our staff on documentation, and making sure we get all the proper paperwork to bill the call properly.  Presently, there is a shortage of EMS personnel in the state, making it difficult to hire qualified people.  As far as shortage of EMS personnel we need to do more out reach programs to the local people by having EMS classes locally to get the local people more involved and hoping they will stay around instead of just coming into small counties and getting some training and moving on to other areas. "

Brett has been involved in Washington County United Way serving from board member to president and is the Health and Safety officer for the David Crocket district of Boy scouts for 6 years. He was also a founding member of EMSAT and a member of NAEMT.
